Applying For Admission To Brooklyn Law SchoolEstablished in 1901, Brooklyn Law School is one of the more famous law schools in the country. It is located right in the heart of Brooklyn in New York. This law school used to have an affiliation with St. Lawrence University and would have been closed in 1943 had it not been for the intervention of the faculty and alumni. The Brooklyn Law School is now a separate institution from the university. Admission to Brooklyn Law School involves several processes. Application materials and requirements would have to be completed first. After, the applicant would have to register with the Law School Data Assembly Service (LSDAS). This is where undergraduate or graduate school transcripts from different colleges of the applicants are submitted. These transcripts are then summarized and converted into standardized academic summary by the LSAC or Law School Admission Council of Brooklyn Law School. Included in the report from the LSDAS are biography information, copies of undergraduate, graduate or law transcripts, scores from the Law School Admission Test (LSAT), samples of written works, and recommendation letters. The next step in the admission process of Brooklyn Law School is taking and passing the LSAT. This is mandatory for all applicants and should be taken within the month of February for enrollment in the fall. The next step in the process is the completion and submission of the signed application form with the following: payment of the application fee, certificate from the Dean, and faculty evaluation. A non-refundable application fee of $65 is required for admission to this law school. To pay this, a check or a money should be made payable to the Brooklyn Law School. Post-dated checks are not accepted as payment for this fee. Applicants who are in financial constraint can be exempted from paying this fee by applying for a fee waiver. The Law School Admission Council will validate if the applicant is indeed financially incapable to pay this fee. A certification from the dean is likewise required from all the institutions attended by the applicant where he finished a degree. Lastly, at least two faculty evaluations are required from Brooklyn Law School applicants. If the applicant had been out of school for several years or had been employed for quite a while, any person can submit these evaluations as long as he or she can vouch for the intellectual ability of the applicant. Sometimes, an interview with the Admissions Office may be included in the admission process however, this only happens in special circumstances. Interviews have been excluded in the general admissions process because of the large number of applicants that the Brooklyn Law School receives every year. A committee will then review the submitted documents. A letter will be sent to the applicant regarding the result of their request for admission. Admission files are kept and maintained for three years. These files may be reactivated if the applicant wishes to re-apply within the time frame. Nevertheless, the applicant would have to go through the entire process again and a new Law School Report of LSDAS should likewise be submitted. |
